Photocopy of a typewritten draft of 'Dr. Hall Jackson and the Purple Foxglove: Medical Practice and Research in America, 1760-1820,' by J. Worth Estes, M.D., submitted to the Massachusetts Historical Society for review in1971. The draft pertains to physician Hall Jackson's life in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, particularly his work with the plant foxglove (also called digitalis) that is used to strengthen the heart. Also pertains to his work to cure some blindness; support of treatment and inoculations of smallpox in New England; and his experiences as a surgeon during the Revolutionary War. Also includes images, figures, an appendices, references, and notes. 'Hall Jackson and the Purple Foxglove' was published in 1979.
